We award grants for Arts and Social causes, in South East England – predominantly in Kent, Sussex and Central London.

About Us

The Charitable Settlement was established in November 1989 by Brian Mitchell, who after a long and industrious career, wished to support his passion for the arts and those less fortunate in the community. From humble beginnings, Brian’s life was transformed by winning a scholarship to The Skinners School in Tunbridge Wells. His career eventually led to him becoming Senior Partner of the accounting firm, KPMG, practicing both in the UK and US. Brian was actively involved in a number of charities, especially in the optical industry, where he was Master of The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers 2000 to 2001.

A thespian himself, Brian was involved in amateur dramatic productions and was an active supporter of both professional and amateur theatre and opera.

Brian passed away in December 2017, but his fellow Trustees decided to continue his legacy, supporting his former school, the arts and social charities which would have been dear to him.
